Former Kaduna state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and now a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Audi Yaro Rigachukun, has cautioned his compatriots in the opposition not to make the mistake of making the former FCT minister, Mallam Nasir El-Rufa’i, the governor of the state.

According to him, El Rufai did not have a PDP membership card when he was nominated Minister of Federal Capital Territory but an emergency card was procured for him before he was screened by the Senate.

Rigachukun, who was chairman of PDP from 1999 to 2011, revealed this at Kafanchan after the inauguration of the Hon Isa Ashiru Campaign Coordinators for the southern zone yesterday. The former PDP boss confessed that he was the one who directed Unguwar Sarki ward to issue El Rufai a PDP card a few days to the screening. ‘’However, when he became minister, El Rufai turned his back on the party and throughout his stay, PDP never benefitted from him,’’ he added.

Rigachukun who defected to APC last December, warned the gathering to beware of the people like El Rufai who may be seeking their votes to become governor of Kaduna state.

He said that no person from Kaduna State had ever benefitted from the former Minister, adding that the people should only vote for a true politician and not just anybody.

The former PDP chairman also said that voting Architect Nmadi Sambo as governor in 2007 was a mistake because he was not a true politician but someone who was just imposed on the state.

Extolling Ashiru’s virtues, Rigachukun said that the gubernatorial aspirant has been helping in not only building Kaduna state but individuals as well. He said that the legislator will make a good governor.

Rigachukun warned PDP against rigging the coming election because that is its stock in trade. ‘’We have not been winning election while I was in PDP; we just sit down and write results,’’ he confessed.

According to him, now that he and all the brains behind the rigging in Kaduna state have left PDP, the ruling party should not attempt to tamper with the peoples wishes.

Earlier, Ambassador Sule Buba, the Director General of the Ashiru Campaign Organisation, said that if Governor Patrick Yakowa was alive, Hon Ashiru wouldn’t have aspired to rule Kaduna state because the late governor was fair and just to all.

Buba alleged that Kaduna state government is for a select few. He added that there are no developmental projects in the state, the state lacks funds and the government has not given the people any explanation.

According to him, the PDP always boasts that southern Kaduna provides block votes and only death will put the relationship between the party and the people.

‘’They used to say that the people of southern Kaduna cannot support any other party apart from PDP. But from the gathering that I have seen today, this is a blatant lie.’’

Buba reminded the gathering that he was the Director-Generalof Yakowa Campaign Organisation in 2011 ‘’and just as I led Yakowa to victory, I will also lead the Ashiru campaign team to victory, God willing.’’

In his remarks, retired Rear Admiral Ishaya Ibrahim Iko recalled that some political office holders from southern Kaduna had earlier endorsed Governor Ramalan Yero as their sole candidate.

The APC chieftain said that those who gave the endorsement were on their own as they were not speaking for the people, in spite of the fact that they are bonafide indigenes of southern Kaduna.

According to him, PDP has ditched the people of Kaduna state in the wilderness, adding that there are no projects, the infrastructure have decayed ‘’but instead there are mass graves form Sanga to Birnin Gwari.’’

Ashiru promised to carry all sections of the state along if elected into office. At the end of the event, eight cars were given to the various coordinators of the campaing team while three motorcycles were given to each of the eight local governments in southern Kaduna.
