2015: Voters will not be disenfranchised, INEC assures
Lagos state Independent National Electoral Commissioner (INEC), Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Adekunle Ogunmola has said no eligible voter would be disfranchised in 2015, except those who failed to obtain the permanent voter’s card, (PVC).
Ogunmola, said this during a courtesy call on the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu and other traditional rulers in the state.
He told the traditional rulers that no one would be allowed to vote in the 2015 polls without the permanent voter’s card.
“We are here to intimate the monarch on the INEC distribution of cards from Nov7 to Nov 9 in 8,465 polling units across the state” he said.
He added that the Commission got the traditional rulers involved because of their closeness to the people.
“We have also undertaken other means to enlighten the residents of Lagos on the need to be fully involved and participate in the processes leading to the emergence of new leaderships in Nigeria in 2015.
Responding, the Oba Akiolu pledged the support of the traditional council in Lagos for INEC to ensure a successful conduct of the 2015 general elections.
“I pledge the support of the Lagos state traditional institutions in ensuring that INEC’s programmes in the state were hitch free and successful” he said.
