A socio-political group under the auspice of Sokoto State Youths Enlightenment Forum (SSYEF) has urged Sokoto state Governor, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, to vie for Sokoto Central Senatorial zone on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015.
Addressing journalists shortly after its general meeting with no fewer than 2,500 members in attendance, the Chairman, Alhaji Bashiru Abubakar, said the quest for a quality representation, as well as landmark achievements of the governor for nearly eight years were the reasons for the endorsement.
According to him, “we want Wamakko to contest the senatorial position due to his landmark achievements as a governor of the state for nearly eight years. We are of the belief that the zone and the state generally will have a quality representation when Wamakko is elected as a senator”.
He stated that Wamakko has transformed the state in all ramifications from 2007 to date, explaining that he is capable of diligently replicating the feat he had achieved as a governor.
“Some of the giant strides of Wamakko include the successful take -off of the state University, construction of an ultra-modern orthopedic hospital, college of Agriculture, Wurno and the School of Midwifery, Tambuwal. The state government under Wamakko had also given priority attention to youths and women empowerment,” Abubakar, added.
In a related development, the executive members of the All Progressives congress (APC) in Silame local government of the state have endorsed the incumbent chairman of the area, Mani Katami, to contest the position of the member of the House of Representatives for the Silame/ Binji federal constituency.
The decision was taken and made public at a meeting of the party in Silame, headquarters of the local government on Sunday.
The chairman of the party in the area, Mani Mai-Katako, said that the action was sequel to the myriad of achievements recorded by Katami as 4-term chairman of the area.
“Katami had performed creditably. He was elected twice as chairman and appointed twice by the state government as a caretaker chairman. We believe in him and we are confident that he will represent us well in the House of Representatives,” he added.
