2015: SAVI launches electoral materials for physically-challenged

Ahead of the 2015 general elections, the State Accountability and Voice Initiative (SAVI) has launched electoral materials to enable persons with disabilities have access to participate in the forthcoming election.

The group coordinator, Flelix Obanubi explained that the materials were launched for physically challenged people to be able to participate in the electoral process, as they have not been educated well on election in the previous year, adding that it will increase the population of the electorate come 2015 elections.

Speaking at the event, INEC, Lagos Resident electoral commission, Dr Adekunle Ogunmola said for good governance in the state, massive electoral participation is necessary.

“Permit me to say that the task of voter education should not be left for the commission alone, let us synergize in educating the citizens on the need to participate in the electoral process, as massive participation is key to good governance,” he said.

Ogunmola added that for those who have registered in 2011, they are eligible to collect their PVC as soon as the exercise begin, adding that re-registration will begin for those that are not able to get their PVC as from 12th- 17th of November 2014.

“Categories of persons are expected to register at INEC designation Registration Area Centres, persons who did not see their names on the pasted register of voters, those who have not turned 18years after the 2011 registration of voters and those who for one reason or the other could not register during the 2011 registration exercise,” He added.

Ogunmola said INEC is full ready for these exercise and the PVCs are readily available for distribution to more than 3million Lagosians in 8465 polling units in Lagos.
