From Muhammad Ibrahim, Kaduna
Residents of Sabon-Gari, in Kaduna-South local government area of Kaduna state, have called on the state governor, Muktar Ramalan Yero to rehabilitate Charanchi Road as a condition for their support for his second-term bid in case he decides to contest his position come 2015.
The residents, represented by a youth group, named Izharul Haq Honesty Group, also lamented that the road was not included among the major roads under construction by the state government, saying they want the governor to know of their plight and hope he will listen to their complain.
According to them, if the government failed to repair the road, which according to them has been in bad state for many years, the residents would think twice before casting their votes for his party.
It was gathered that the road was built in the 80s under Alhaji Balarabe Musa as Governor of old Kaduna state.
In a statement signed by the group, located in Sabon-Gari new extension, its Chairman, Ustaz Muhammad Abubakar Danmama and Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Muhammad Yaba, urged the governor to come to the aid of the people of the area.
The group believed the governor should approve the reconstruction of the road, which started from Ibrahim Taiwo road, Kasuwan-Barchi market and linked to Nnamdi Azikiwe expressway.
“Charanchi road has been in a bad state for many years. The road, we understand, was built since Alhaji Balarabe was the governor of the state, which was in 80s. So we are appealing to the state governor, Muktar Ramalan Yero, to please come to our aid to repair the road for the benefit of the people in the area,” they said.
The youth further commended Governor Yero’s administration for its efforts towards rehabilitating major roads within the state metropolis and environs and also called on the people of the state to support the governor, by living in peace with one another so as to move the state forward.
