From Raji Bello, Sokoto
A chieftain of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Senator representing Sokoto Central in the National Assembly, Senator Ahmed Maccido, has described the party as intact and united ahead of the 2015 general elections.
He also urged the party members to remain steadfast and hold on to the PDP, saying the party is strategizing towards ensuring success at all levels in the 2015 elections.
Maccido who spoke shortly after receiving his new membership card of the party described the PDP’s chances as bright considering what he noted as the massive turn-out of the party members across the state and Nigeria.
He noted the ongoing registration exercise of the party members as another milestone for the PDP.
Maccido expressed confidence that PDP will take over Sokoto state in 2015. “PDP had been in charge in Sokoto state and this will be restored in 2015.”
Also, speaking against the backdrop of speculations that the incumbent governor of Sokoto state may run for senatorial seat come 2015 general election, he retorted that he cannot be intimidated by him.
His words: “We are bound to be on collision course because we are no longer in the same party; he is in the APC and I am in the PDP. If I am called to serve, I am going to go for that seat again under PDP.
“I will not in any way be intimated; I know my position with my people, my senatorial district. I have been with them for the past eight years and I know my capacity. I am very much optimistic that I am going to win if I am called to serve,” he said.
