From Ahmed Abubakar, Dutse

The Joint National Association of People with Disabilities have called on the Jigawa state governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, to contest the presidency by 2015.

The call was made yesterday by the state Chairman of the Association, Comrade Muhammad Usman, while delivering his speech during a one day interactive session on the inclusion of persons with disabilities in electoral processes.

He said the association at the state level have taken the position of urging Lamido to contest in 2015 for other people with disabilities in Nigeria to enjoy the dividends of democracy like those in Jigawa state.

Usman explained that it is only in Jigawa under Lamido’s administration that people with disabilities are considered in running the affairs of the state government.

He maintained that currently over 10,000 people with various forms of disabilities in the state are enjoying N7,000 monthly allowances from the government.

The chairman also urged other state governors to emulate the effort of the Jigawa governor to include the people with disability in the running of the affairs of their government.

He also called on the national and state electoral bodies to allow people with disabilities to fully participate in electoral process.
