From Femi Oyelola, Kaduna
A senior aid to Sheikh Ahmed Gumi has denied knowledge of any letter
written by his principal to General Muhammadu Buhari not to contest
the 2015 Presidential General election.
The aide who identified himself as Usman Abdullahi, told Peoples Daily at Sheikh
Gumi’s residence yesterday that if anybody is in a position to be
aware he thinks he is the best to know. The aide who looked disturbed
about the purported letter said he suspects it is handiwork of
hackers.
He further said his principal, who is absent will address the press on
the issue whenever he comes back to the country.
Also, an Islamic scholar, in Kaduna North Local Government Area, said
that the purported letter written by the learned Islamic scholar,
Sheik Ahmed Gumi to the former Head of State, General Muhammadu
Buhari, not to contest the 2015 Presidential election is a handiwork
of hackers and should be treated with caution.
The Islamic scholar who also spoke with Peoples Daily said, the Gumi he
knows have every access to General Buhari, and would rather
not prefer to discuss such sensitive issue on the Facebook and therefore
called on Sheikh Gumi to clear the air.
The purported letter, which was said to have been pasted on Gumi’s
Facebook wall, said, “From my view if APC can support, as an example
Ameachi or Okorocha/Kwankwaso or El-Rufai or Tambuwwal ticket and the
PDP will have Ukpabio/Mu’azu or Ribadu or Shekarau, the next four
years will. – insha Allah – witness stability both in the north and
south. And the electoral body will get the necessary infrastructure
that subsequently the next election will be free and fair and the true
reflection of Nigerians”, he said.
Gumi said, in a message to Buhari entitled: “My candid Nasiha (advice)
to Gen. Buhari”, posted on the Facebook wall of the Sheikh, that Buhari’s
weakness was not in his past impeccable record of accountability of
public wealth and the fight against corruption and indiscipline,
rather his weakness was in his inability to control men compounded
further by his strict and obsessive rejection of corruption.
