From Femi Oyelola, Kaduna
A group under the auspices of Buhari Youth Congress for Change (BYCC) has faulted the Kaduna based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi over his recent open letter to former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari calling on him to step down his 2015 Presidential ambition.
The group called on the Islamic scholar to stop interfering in the Nigerian politics, instead preach peace and unity in the country.
Speaking on behalf of the group, National Coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Katagum called on Nigerians to disregard the statement by the Islamic scholar, Sheikh Gumi.
According to him, “Dr. Gumi, who is a respected Islamic scholar usually, goes astray when he abandoned his primary constituencies of preaching. The group added that it is expecting him to have called on Buhari personally, if he wants to advise him and not in the public like he did.
“Part of the letter also read that the General is too old to rule the nation, forgetting that one who makes a good leadership starts from the age of 60 years.
“Dr. Gumi also forgot that General Buhari remains the incorruptible leader the nation has ever had.
“We believe there is something secret the scholar is keeping away from the public about General Buhari, because this is certainly not the first time he is telling the General to step down. He did same thing during the 2007 race between the General and late Alhaji Musa Yar’adua.
“We believe there is no competent candidate among all the APC presidential aspirants. We call on the people of Nigeria to shun the call, because it is capable of causing chaos in the nation,” Alhaji Katagum stated.
