A political group, Tambuwal For President (TFP) has commenced mobilisation for the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwwal not only to pick the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the presidential race but also going on to win the presidential election in 2015 and become the president of the country.
The group which was floated by lawmakers and Nigerians from various walks of life said they decided to endorse the lawmaker because of his track record as an astute politician.
In a press statement signed by its Director of Publicity, Mrs. Aderinola Aladesuyi, stated that it has raised a committee to commence lobby on behalf of the Speaker among APC governors and leaders on the need to support the aspiration of Tambuwal.
However, the Reps Speaker has not officially indicated his intention to run for the Presidency nor publicly announced his official defection to APC.
Observers however believed that Tambuwal’s defection is just a matter of public declaration having started attending meetings of the APC.
“While we don’t have anything against General Muhammad Buhari, we feel Tambuwal is a better candidate because he is young, committed and have the interest of the country. What we are saying is that we should just allow younger elements like Tambuwal to rule this country. People like Buhari should stay in the background and act as advisers to the young president,” the statement added.
TFP stated further that it has commenced nationwide consultation and lobbying for the Reps Speaker to win the party’s ticket as well as going on to win the 2015 presidential election.
“We are backing him with every available non-violent weapon to achieve this dream because we believe that Tambuwal’s candidature and eventual victory at the polls will ensure good governance at all levels in Nigeria of tomorrow”.
Another stakeholder who is from the North West zone of the country also spoke in the same vein saying “we in the north are solidly behind him and will help to guide and guard him to victory come 2015 mark my words”.
It was also gathered that the group clamouring for Tambuwal to run the presidential race against the incumbent, President Goodluck Jonathan had held several meetings in Lagos before taking this common position.
