The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Gombe State, Prof. Istifanus Dafwang has urged all political parties in the state to strictly adhere to rules and regulations that would guide the conduct of general elections in 015.
Prof. Dafwang made the disclosure yesterday in Gombe during a meeting with stakeholders preparatory to the forth coming general elections in the country.
He emphasized that when the new polling units are created, there will the need for electorate to be sensitized to enable them be aware of the creation of the units, adding that the significance of the creation of additional polling units is to decongest the population of voters during elections.
The REC however encouraged stakeholders not to relent in contributing their quota by educating eligible voters on how to go along with their normal business to ensure a successful conduct of the general elections.
According to him, its commission would work closely with security agencies to ensure that lives and properties of citizens are protected during the elections, adding that INEC had put modalities in place to enable free, fair and credible elections in the country.
Speaking further, Prof Dafwang called on the youth to shun violence during and after elections, noting that the nation can only be at peace if there is violence free election in the country saying that only those with permanent voters’ card would be allowed to vote during elections.
