From Muhammad Ibrahim, Kaduna
Following an endorsement of Governor Muktar Ramalan Yero of Kaduna State by Fulani leadership in the state, a faction of the group under the aegis of Concerned Nomadic Pastoralists in the State yesterday dissociated itself from the purported endorsement of the governor ahead of the 2015 election.
According to the group, the performance of the present administration under Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, particularly as it concerns Nomadic Pastoralists in the state deserved no endorsement.
It could be recalled that a meeting was held in Kubau local government area of the state recently where Fulani leaders declared that the entire Fulanis in the state have endorsed governor Yero for the 2015 election.
But the factional group in a statement signed by the state coordinator Ibrahim Abdullahi said after an emergency meeting, the group said the conveners of the meeting in Kubau did not consult with relevant stakeholders and Fulani leaders in the state before making such declarations.
He added that the association under which the meeting was convened is not a political association or an appendage of any political party.
“That having scrutinized the performance of the present administration under Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero particularly as it concerned Nomadic Pastoralists, there is nothing to suggest that he deserved to be endorsed by the entire Fulanis in Kaduna State.
“That while their cattle is being rustled, their sons and daughters are being killed and maimed, their settlements burned and they are being chased away from one place to another without provision of grazing reserves for them to settle, while government under the leadership of Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero is looking the other way and showing no interest whatsoever to their plight, it’s absolutely an insult for anyone to come out and declare that they have endorsed the governor.
“The meeting therefore condemned in strong terms the activities of some elements within the Pastoralists who for their selfish interest without any consultations make declarations that will affect the life of Nomadic Pastoralists,” he said.
They therefore called on all Nomadic Pastoralists in Kaduna State to disregard that declaration, pointing out that Nomadic Pastoralists will make its position known after due consultations with all relevant stakeholders as to whom to support at the appropriate time.
