From Ahmed Kaigama, Bauchi.
A chieftain of the All Progressives People’s Party (APC) in Bauchi state, Alhaji Ali Wakili, has boasted that he would defeat the incumbent governor of the state, Mallam Isa Yuguda, when they both contest the state Senatorial election I. 2015.
The politician who carpeted the governor for non performance said that all the indices are pointing to the facts that the people of Bauchi are increasingly disenchanted with the ruling PDP.
The politician, who contested as running mate to the All Congress of Nigeria (ACN) governorship candidate, Alhaji Baba Tella, in 2011 and lost to the PDP, said: “All of us are witnesses to misgovernance in this country;all of us are under siege mentally, physically and security wise.
“Some of us even refer to the days of former governor Ahmed Adamu Mu’azu in terms of governance but if you look at my brother Mallam Isa Yuguda, whom people are agitating for to come and contest for the Bauchi South senatorial election, he has got his chances.
“Look at the quantum of money coming into the state treasury right from the time he became governor till date. You will discover that the physical presence on ground and other social amenities, infrastructure and the living standard of the people do not match the quantum of money that comes into the state’s treasury.
“Certainly, you have visited a good number of hospitals but how medical personnels are there? What is the state of the health facilities? Go and check the health indexes in terms of mortality and child birth and what is the situation now?
“He has made so many promises when four different programmes were launched in the same place and none of you has ever asked him about the Yankari Independent Power project, the Inland Container, the issue of Housing. We are going to ask him. Thirdly, if you look at roads built by the government that the people are counting as part of his achievements, the Ningi road when you go to Alkaleri-Futuk road, the road is already dead and over a billion naira was sunk into the project.
“So, we are going to ask him to account for his stewardship if we must give him the Senate this time around; he has to justify the mandate we gave him before. So, I don’t have any fear with Mallam Isa Yuguda flying the flag of PDP. At any rate the people are discontented; they are wallowing in poverty, diseases and hunger.”
On his chances of getting the APC ticket to run, he said: “By the grace of God, I have been there in the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). I was involved in the whole process of merger and I was a member of the interim at the state level and we brought the party to its present stage. I have been part of the party’s ward and state congresses and I am part of the national congress because I am a delegate from Tafawa Balewa local government.
In a swift reaction, the Senior Political Adviser to the state governor, Alhaji Kabiru Barwa , said the accusation are unfounded. According to him, the roads he mentioned were fixed by Yuguda’s administration after his predecessors had failed.
