2015: APC not at war with PDP – Oshiomhole

From Osaigbovo Iguobaro, Benin

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was not at war with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ahead of 2015 General elections in the country.

He noted that in spite differences in ideology on how to move the nation forward, they were all united in the bid of making the country better.

According to the governor who made the declaration at the state APC Congress, “APC is not at war with the PDP, APC recognizes the legitimacy of the PDP. We are only here to contest the basis and ideas but we are all united in sheer commitment to build a great nation. We may not agree on the best way to do it, which is why we are building an alternative party,”

He boasted that the APC, under his watch in the state, will resist any form of rigging in subsequent elections, insisting that some former members of his party who defected from APC to the PDP were not ‘fit into the logic of APC’.

“Those who insist we must do politics as usual, where positions and appointments are done by one person; those who insist that I should unilaterally decree them as the next governor of the state cannot fit in. Those who insist I should appoint them as the chairman of APC because they were chairman before, they cannot fit into the principle of change’’, he said.

South-south Leader of APC, Chief Tom Ikimi, said the decision on who become the next governor of the State does not reside with any individual irrespective of position or party.

Meanwhile, a pressure group, Edo state Governorship candidates of the Allied political parties in the Edo state election of July 14th 2012, comprising Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP) and National Conscience Party (NCP), have berated Oshiomhole on the manner it handled the just concluded APC ward congresses and party registration in the state.

They also accused the governor of playing the ostrich with key stake holders of the APC including the likes of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and Prince Tony Omoaghe, former leaders and party chairman of the party respectively who dumped the APC for the PDP recently.
