Abuja residents have high expectations for 2015, as they join others across the world to usher in the New Year, even as they reviewed the strength and weakness of the Senator Bala Mohammed-led Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in 2014.
In this Vox Pop, our correspondent, Mashe Umaru Gwamna, reports that a cross section of the residents, who spoke on their expectations from the FCTA for the New Year, said despite the recording of sad events, especially the cycle of deadly bomb blasts in the FCT , they are looking forward for more developmental strides in the Territory, as they expects 2015 to be better than 2014.
They expressed that just like individuals make New Year resolution, government too ought to have their list of resolutions, especially to improve the lives of the ordinary citizens.
One Mr. Enench Ameh, who resides at Apo District, says “in 2015, am expecting the FCT administration to look into the case of Apo mechanic village by compensating and relocating us to a good site, so as to ease our lingering sufferings.
“For years, we have been pleading with the minister to give us a place that will be our permanent site for our trades, but in 2015 it is our hope that he (FCT minister) will graciously grant our plea.”
Another resident, Mr. Ibrahim Gideon, a pensioner says: “We are pleading with the FCT administration to look in to the resolving problems with the pension schemes, because pensioners are suffering too much.
“The government should be more focus in discharging their duty as captured in their approved budget; and help the rural communities within the FCT, by giving them roads, water and electricity ,to give them a better life in 2015.
“My expectation for 2015 from the FCT administration is that the minister should look into his cabinet and flush out those that are frustrating the effort of the administration.
“In 2014, we suffered so much from activities of FCT task force, because what they do is that they do not give fair judgment to traders in the FCT, and some of them take undue advantage of us , as strip us of all our money .
“Their judgment is not right, what I sincerely ask from the FCT minister is to bring right people on board to take care of the city,” says Insuna Mamman, a trader in Wuse.
For, Miss Jane Ali, an Estate surveyor, her expectation from the FCT administration in 2015 is more focus on city management in line with the original plan of the city.
“The minister should focus more on city management and proper attention to the city’s original plan;
seriously FCT was so dirty in 2014 ,what we are expecting is that there should sustainable city management in 2015.
“And the minister should look into the rising house rent within the city capital, because when you survey round the city, one would realized that many houses in the FCT are empty, we are pleading that in 2015 ,the FCT minister will look in to the matter before he round up his regime,” she stressed.
Similarly, Mr. Sunday Adeboye, who resides at Wuse District, said the current FCT minister has done a lot the passing year (2014), when compared with other past administrations.
“The the current FCT Administration under Senator Bala Mohammed has repaired and expanded major roads in the FCT, as the administration is making some of the roads to become double lane ,and beautifying the FCT environs .
“But, what am expecting in 2015 is that the FCT minister should into the welfare of FCT police men,” he expressed.
Not left out, a student, Godiya Billy, says “am expecting award of more students’ scholarship from the FCT administration in 2015.
Also, the FCT minister should ensure that all those illegal buildings spring up again in the city are checkmated, by giving more priority to opening up of suburbs and satellites towns around the capital city.”
On his part, a cleaner seen at Nico junction, in Maitama District, Gideon Pam said in the New Year, he expects the FCT administration to construct more drainages , because during raining season in 2014 people suffered a lot from preventable flooding.
“Also, the FCT Administration should pay more attention to the lingering security challenges in the city by applying more tactics to ensure there will be no more bomb blast or occurrence of any serious crime in the FCT,” he stressed.
