From Yakubu Mustapha, Minna

Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami A. Abubakar has appealed to all Nigerians, to give peace a chance, believing that without peace, the citizens would have no country.

He made the call yesterday at the official commissioning of Lapai- Gulu road and a General Hospital named after him by the Niger state government at Gulu in Lapai Local Government Area of the state.

The former leader said, “I will appeal to all of us to play our roles in maintaining peace and harmony in our country”

Abubakar, who was accompanied to the occasion by his wife, Justice [Hajiya} Fati Lami Abubakar , who is also the Chief Judge of Niger state, announced the donation of an Ambulance Vehicle to the newly commissioned General Hospital on behalf of himself and his family, including that of his company , Maizube Holdings limited in appreciation of the honour bestowed on him by the state government.

Accordingly, he said, “there is no doubt that this project is of particular significance as we re-focused and strategize towards continuous efforts in building institutions and infrastructures for the betterment of our people. They say, health is wealth, it is therefore my prayers that this laudable frontal approach in the health sector is sustained” .

Meanwhile, the state Governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu in his remarks described Abdulsalami Abubakar as a leader who disciplined himself and restrained himself against the advice of people particularly from Niger state who wanted him to stay longer in office during his tenure as Military Head of state , but declined to heed such an advice.

He thanked God for giving his administration the opportunity to commission some projects that would no doubt improve the quality of lives of the people particularly the 103 Kilmeter road and the Abdulsalami Abubakar General Hospital being commissioned yesterday, as well as other projects being enjoyed elsewhere by the people, not only in Niger state but in other parts of the country and beyond
