Over 200 women and Children have been displaced by a conflict that ravaged Kolokolo Community in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.
The border town near Ologbo Community came under attacks, following failed attempts by some actors in the crisis led by the Iyatsere of Warri Kindom, Chief Johnson Atseleghe, (JP) to make life unbearable for the people Kolokolo.
Mrs. Faith Asokhuara who claimed to be a peasant farmer in the community made the allegation during a Media briefing yesterday held at the Talakawa Parliament in Benin City, Edo State.
“As I speak, over 200 of us including children no longer have any place to stay. Our Children are been harassed and threatened.
“We have not been able to return to our houses since the crisis began few months ago. Our church was razed down by youths at a time and many of us had been held as Captives “, she said.
The Spokesperson for Kolokolo Community, Comrade Sunny Etchie, alleged that several attack on the Community by suspected hoodlums were orchestrated by persons believed to be loyal to the Iyasere of Warri Kingdom.
Etchie, appealed to government at all levels to intervene which has put some inhabitants of the Community in quandary despite assurances by police to protect lives and property.
“Emphatically it is on record that we Kolokolo Community is in Benin Kingdom of Edo State where our allegiance is to the Oba of Benin and the Enogie of Ologbo whom is the Duke of Ologbo Dukedom in line with Nigeria’s Constitution applicable in Edo state.”, Etchie said.
Responding to allegations raised by the People of Kolokolo Community in a telephone interview, Mr Johnson Aseleghe, described the protesters as busy bodies.
He said that the Olu of Warri, was already handling the crisis.
“The People protesting in Benin over the attack on them and their community are not from Kolokolo community. The matter of Kolokolo community is already before the Olu of Warri and as such I cannot say anything.” Aseleghe said.
Meanwhile, the Iyatsere of Warri Kindom, Chief Johnson Atseleghe, (JP), has as debunked and declared the claims and allegations by one Sony Etchie, a fomer youths leader of Kolokolo Community in Ikboba/Okha Local Gorverment Area against him as unfounded, malicious and scandalous while saying Warri and Benin are brothers.
He said members of the community who were tired of his illegal bunkery activities which resulted into oil spillages thereby damaging and destroying the ecosystem in the Community protested against him
Iyatsere said he has been blackmailing him with different accusations and that the Olu of Warri has also informed the Itsekiri National Youths Council to wade into the matter which has been done.
It will be recalled that Sony Etchie held a press briefing amidst protest by some alleged members of Kolokolo Community who accused chief Johnson Atseleghe of high handedness and destruction of their properties which has left some members of the Community homeless.
