Over 20 groups belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have indicated interest to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2015 general election, extolling the leadership qualities of Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura.
The groups, under the aegis of the Nasara Community Association of Nasarawa local government area of the state, while presenting their position paper yesterday before the Chairman of the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), Mallam Abdulkarim Abdullahi Muhammad in Keffi, noted that with current happenings across the country, particularly in the northern part of the country, they were left with no option than to leave the PDP.
Presenting the group’s position, Alhaji Yahaya Namama, told the NSUBEB boss that they are ready and willing to work for the success of the APC and to ensure the failure of the PDP in the state as well as the country at large.
“PDP is not a religion. With what is now happening, the north requires unity whether you are Muslim, Christian or pagan because the next bomb to go off could kill either of us. That explains why we decided to leave the PDP” Namama said.
Members of the group however gave a condition which they said must be made before they finally leave the PDP for the APC.
“We are not here to castigate or blame anybody but we are wary of government officials who do not intend to carry the people along. For this reason, we can only leave our party if the APC assures us of carrying us along.
“We know the roles we have been playing while being loyal to the PDP and it is not unconnected with these roles that members of the PDP are doing everything to persuade us not to leave” Namama disclosed.
Responding, Mallam Abdulkarim commended the group for identifying with the laudable development projects being put in place by Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura, pledging to convey the group’s demand to the appropriate quarters.
“It’s commendable that the Nasara group is poised to change the political environment in Nasarawa for Al-makura’s electoral success” he stated.
