18 fleeing prisoners, two suspects paraded for burning police station

18 fleeing prisoners who escaped from two Nigeria Correctional Custodial Centres in Benin have been arrested and paraded by police.
The inmates were among over 2000 prisoners escapees that were set free at the two custodial Centres of the Nigerian Correctional Services during the EndSARS protest that occurred on October 20, 2020 in Benin City.
The State Commissioner of police Mr. Johnson Kokumo paraded the suspects on Wednesday at police headquarters in Benin City.
Two suspects who were involved in the burning of Nigeria police station at Saint Saviour, Upper Sokponba in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area and the looting of police armoury at Oba market police station in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State were among the 14 robbery suspects that were also paraded by the police Commissioner.
50-year-old Mr. Frank Otabor who burnt the police station at Saint Saviour and 26-year-old Mr. Andrew Francis confessed to the crime.
While Otabor who claimed to be jobless man, was picked up by the police at Musheshe area, off Upper Sokponba road after the attack at the police station and making sexual advance to married woman, Mr. Francis, denied that he was not he owner of the stolen police AK-47 rifle which police claimed was found with him.
Briefing journalists during the parade, the State Commissioner of police, Mr. Johnson Kokumo, commended the efforts of sister security agencies and the public for their collaboration.
Further breakdown of the 48 criminal suspects that were paraded, indicates that, 14 armed robbery suspects and 16 suspected cultists.
According to the CP, “On our part, we have been working in synergy with sister security agencies to ensure that we re-arrest the escapees with the support of sister agencies and members of the public who partner with us that led to the arrest of these suspected criminals.
