From Lawal Sa’idu Funtua, Katsina
No fewer than 15 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), members of Katsina State House of Assembly have threatened to dump the party for the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
Our correspondent reliably gathered that the aggrieved lawmakers met over the weekend in Kaduna where they resolved that with the imposition of candidates by the state Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Shehu Shema and the party they were left with no option other than to leave the party.
A source close to the Kaduna meeting who spoke to our correspondent on condition anonymity said the major grouse of the lawmakers was the party’s failure to grant them the opportunity to re- contests their seats.
Already, our reporter gathered from a source that the aggrieved lawmakers have started making contacts with the leadership of the APC where they were allegedly assured of a level playing ground.
The lawmakers according to the source cited alleged impunity in the selection of candidates to carry the PDP flag in 2015 as the major reason for planning to dump the party.
The source alleged ‘when we met with the governor during stakeholders meeting he said he has no anointed candidates. But alas when the reconciliation process began the governor started imposing candidates who are not even popular’.
It could be recalled that only last week, a member of the state house of assembly representing Kurfi Local Government, Alhaji Danlami Kurfi defected to the opposition APC from his former party, PDP. A PDP lawmaker from Sandamu Local Government has also defected to the APC.
Danlami who picked the APC House of Representatives nomination form for Dutsin-ma- Kurfi Federal constituency, alleged that it was the governor’s impunity that chased him out of the PDP, saying Katsina PDP is finished.
Similarly in Safana Local Government, the SURE-P coordinator of the area, Alhaji Abdulkadir Zakka was reported to have dumped the PDP and picked the APC state house of assembly seat of the local government.
