A thirteen year old Zahra’u Babangida, said her father told her she will make heaven if she detonated an Improvised Explosive to kill herself and others at the famous Kantin Kwari market in Kano state recently.
According to her, she was assured by her father and other kingpins of the notorious Boko Haram sect that she would die a martyr upon the completion of the suicide mission.
The teenager admitted that the mere fact that if she failed to carry out her mission, death awaits her in the hands of security agents or from angry residents of Kano was another motivating factor to embark on the suicide mission.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after she was paraded by the Police at the Kano State Police headquarters yesterday, Zahrau said she was brought into the state alongside two other female suicide bombers by some members of the sect from Bauchi State with the aim of executing the dastard mission.
She said that on reaching the target, Allah touched her mind as she opted not to detonate the explosives strapped to her waist, defying several pleas by her colleagues that accompanied her to donate her own explosives.
Continuing, she revealed that she had to accept to carry out the satanic mission in order to run away from the sect’s camp in an unknown bush where she was taken to by her father.
She further stated that she took the decision to flout the command given to her by her sponsors, since she could not comprehend the veracity of her mission.
Recalling how she was frightened by the calamity that had befallen the two other suicide bombers, she recalls thus: “As we arrived at the market that day, the suicide bombing was carried out, my colleagues said we should take a strategic positions in the densely populated areas of the market to quickly swing into action. Upon realising the folly of such a mission, I told them that I won’t detonate my explosives. They insisted that I should do it but I refused. They simultaneously detonated theirs after I refused to detonate mine. I swiftly sneaked out of the market after sustaining injury from the blast that was carried out by them”, she said.
” I then boarded a tricycle to Dawanau town, where I once lived with my parents, with the aim of having treatment for the injury I sustained in the blasts. Later, the situation took a different dimension, when the hospital management suspected me as a suicide bomber. I eventually found myself in the hand of soldiers. That was what led to my arrest and what is unfolding now”, she added.
The teenage suicide bomber further revealed that she is an indigene of Yobe State and had once lived in Dawanu town, in Dawakin Tofa Local Government area of Kano State.
Shedding more light after parading the teenage suicide bomber, the state commissioner of Police, Mr. Aderenle T. Shinaba, in a joint press conference with State Security Service (SSS), said the feat was achieved courtesy of the collaborative effort between the two security operatives in the state.
Shinaba stated that the on-going insurgency in the country is not an inter- tribal warfare, stressing that, some agents of terrorism are taking solace in decimating innocent people.
On the fate of the female suicide bomber, the commissioner said, she would be taken to court after extensive investigations, saying the court would be the one to determine what would happen.
On the preparations so far made by the state Police command on the eve of the christmas and new year festivities , Shinaba said adequate security measures have been put in place to forestall any bad occurrence, adding that the Police would not take it lightly with anyone willing to breach peace during the festivities.
