12 persons have perished in an accident involving four vehicles at Dabaibaya village, along Katsina-Dutsin-ma road, in Katsina state.
A rescue officer with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Katsina state Command, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, who confirmed the incident to Peoples Daily blamed dangerous overtaking for the accident.
He noted that the accident occurred on Tuesday and that the vehicles involved included three Golf cars and a Toyota car, which according to him were all on high speed.
Ibrahim said “That side of the road is causing accidents because, it is at the point that the Katsina-Dutsin-ma dual carriage way terminates, most motorists continue to drive as if they are still driving on the dual carriageway”.
The rescue officer averred that immediately the accident occurred, his team rushed to the scene and evacuated the dead, while the injured were taken to Katsina General Hospital for medication.
He similarly advised motorists against embarking on night journey and dangerous overtaking, advising passengers to always check the excesses of reckless drivers.
