115 students benefit from Russian, Algerian Scholarship – FG

A total of 115 Nigerian students have benefited from scholarships from the Russian Federation and the Algerian governemnt.
The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu expressed the government’s profound gratitude to the governments of Russia and Algeria for their immense contribution to Education in Nigeria.
Mallam Adamu who was speaking on the sidelines of the 2018/2019 Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) scholars departure to Russia and Algeria noted that the gesture is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular, goal 4, which is aimed at making quality education accessible to all Nigerians.
The Education Minister, Mallam Adamu Adamu who was represented by the Director of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Lami Amodu said that the scholarship is a reward of excellence and encouragement to brilliant Nigerians who could not afford to sponsor their studies in foreign countries.
“The Russian Federation is ahead of 18 other countries awarding scholarships to Nigeria students to study in their respective countries with a total award to 94 students to study in Russia for 2018/2019 academic session under the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) with Nigeria. Algeria is next to Russia with a total of 21 awards.”
“The 16 other countries which have Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) with Nigeria include Hungary, Turkey, South Korea, Japan, Morocco, Egypt, Ukraine and Serbia.
Others are, Mexico, Cuba, Tunisia, Macedonia, Romania, China and Sierraleone.
A breakdown of the award shows that a total of 90 awards are for undergraduate programmes from Russia while 4 are post graduate awards.
All the 21 awards from Algeria are for undergraduates programmes.”
Malam Adamu also revealed that Nigeria has also offered reciprocal award to students from China, Romania and Sierraleone, adding that the country is prepared to do more to meet her obligations under the Bilateral Education Agreements.
“Apart from the Bilateral Educational Agreement Scholarships, the Federal Scholarship Board also gives scholarships for programmes tenable in federal and state universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education in Nigeria as well as Post graduate scholarships.”
