From Uche Uche, Damaturu

Over 100 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has shifted their loyalty to the ruling party in Yobe State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the formal flagging off of Governor Ibrahim Gaidam’s re-election campaign which took place in Nangere town in Yobe State yesterday.

The defectors who were represented by their leaders who were the party chairmen of PDP, in zone B, Yobe south senatorial district, comprising Nangere, Potiskum, Fune and Fika local governments, were presented with the APC flags during the occasion signifying their loyalty and acceptance to the ruling party and their abandonment of PDP.

Speaking during the occasion, state Governor, Alh. Dr. Ibrahim Gaidam pointed out that PDP has failed woefully in caring for the people especially in the area of providing security for the lives and properties of the people, thus the reason for people abandoning what he called a broken umbrella that could not provide the needed shelter for the people.

He therefore called on the remaining members of the PDP to join the APC in order to work together for the betterment of the lives of the all Yobeans, pointing out that PDP from the year 1999 to date has done nothing for neither its members in the state nor for the state in general.

“The security challenges we are facing in Yobe State and the entire northeast is the result of the failure of the central ruling party, the PDP, but when APC forms the government at the national level with General Buhari as President, I assure you that Boko Haram members will run away and he is sure to pursue them even into the outer place and eliminate all the vestiges of the insurgents,” Gaidam optimized.

“On our party as APC government, we have fulfilled over 90% of our 2011 campaign promises in all the sectors of our economy such as the provision of portable drinking water and sanitation in which we have achieved over 70% of the MDG goals,” the governor said.

“We have also achieved a lot in the provision of road networks, electrification of our towns with solar powered street lights and connected most of our towns to the national grid to improve the economic activities of our people,” he added.

“Further, we have improved our health sector by upgrading medical centers in all the three senatorial districts and employed doctors from within and outside the country to improve service delivery in the heath sector including qualified nurses, among other achievements of the administration.

He pointed out that his second term in office, after being re-elected, would witness provision of more of the much needed dividends of democracy as his administration would consolidate on the achievements already made within his first tenure as the governor of the state.
