In an effort to improve knowledge seeking by its teeming youths, the management of Fofure Local Government in Adamawa state has given scholarship to one hundred indigene students across tertiary institutions in the state.
Executive Chairman of the Council, Barristar Aliyu Wakili Boya while presenting the scholarship support to the students in Fufore ,weekend, said it was his administration’s way of fulfilling campaign promises to the parents and their wards in the education sector.
Barristar Boya said the gesture was to encourage qualified students in the area to further their education.
Boya who was represented by the chairman of the Boya scholarship programme, Alhaji Saidu Sali, said 50 of the students undergoing diploma programmes were given N10,000 each while the other 50 undergoing degree programmes were given N20, 000 each.
Speaking at the occasion, the District Head of Fufore, Alhaji Abubakar Mahmud, lauded the initiative and urged other elected officials to emulate it.
Mahmud also urged beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by being more dedicated to their studies.
Some of the beneficiaries, Suleiman Man-Petel and Hussaini Lawur, who spoke, thanked the council chairman for the support which they said was timely.
They prayed for the success of his ambition to contest for Adamawa Central Senatorial seat, adding that with higher elective position, the chairman who is also the Sarkin Matasa (Youth Leader) in Adamawa Emirate would do more for the youth in the zone.
