WC qualifier: Keshi optimistic over Emenike’s recovery
Albeit, medics say Emmanuel Emenike’s hamstring injury would require at least eight weeks to heal, Super Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, remains optimistic the player will be available for selection against the Harambee Stars of Kenya on March 23.
The Eagles will clash with the Stars in a 2014 World Cup qualifier at the UJ Esuene Stadium Calabar, and the disclosure penultimate day that Emenike’s injury, picked up during the AFCON semi-finals against Mali, has ruled him out of the game. Reacting to media report yesterday, Keshi expressed confidence over the player’s recovery stressing that perhaps media report may have been exaggerated and added he would expect the final word from Spartak Moscow’s medics.
“Emenike is a very important component of our national team set up and we have to be concerned if he is in form, injured or otherwise and that is why we are a bit concerned about reports that he will not be available for the game against Kenya.
“We can never give up about such an important player and we wish him the quickest of recoveries no matter what the medical team anywhere is saying”, Keshi declared.
The Super Eagles supremo praised the consistency of the top striker, declaring that even when he has several other options for Emenike, he’s also hoping that the player makes it on time to the set up ahead of the Kenya World Cup qualifier duel, as he’s trying to build a team that has started to gradually take shape.
