Unique identity number underway for bank customers
All customers of commercial banks are to be allocated a unique identification number as from June, 2013, the Bankers’ Committee declared yesterday. The unique identification number would be generated through a fresh customer data base that will capture comprehensive bio-data of each bank customer. To ensure a hitch-free exercise, a technical committee has been raised and is currently on tour of at least four continents already adopting the system. Managing Director/COE of Zenith Bank, Mr. Godwin Emefule disclosed the impending exercise to the media representatives yesterday in Abuja as one of the resolutions of the committee.
The decision, he said, was a fallout of another committee on customer identity management set up by Banker’s’ Committee to review ways of boosting customers credit.
On return of the technical committee currently on tour, Emefule said a software producer would be engaged to design a database for the exercise.
He said that the exercise is designed to enable a seamless banking transaction as according to him “your bio-data is taken and a unique number is given to you by Bank A. If you go to Bank B, automatically that enables you to transact with Bank B without further taking of details. A mere press of button by Bank B feeding your unique identity number automatically brings your data”.
