A PDP chieftain in Adamawa, Mr Peneas Elisha, says the formation of All Progressives Congress (APC) is a welcome development that will put his party on its toes.

Elisha told newsmen yesterday in Yola that lack of credible opposition was responsible for some of the internal crises in PDP.

“The formation of APC is a welcome development to Nigerians and to us because when you don’t have a credible opposition outside, then it will come within the party itself.

”That is what is happening in PDP now. People feel that once you are nominated in PDP, you are as good as elected.

“Now with the formation of APC, you will find out that we in PDP have to be on our toes.”

Commenting on Adamawa PDP leadership crisis, Elisha said the Kugama-led state executive was the authentic body.

He said that although the executive was dissolved in October 2012, it was later re-instated in January by a resolution of 10 out of the 12 National Working Committee (NWC) members of the party.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Gov. Murtala Nyako recently told newsmen that the leadership crisis in the  state chapter of PDP had been resolved.

The governor added that with the resolution, the re-instated Kugama-led state executive had been legalised and remained the authentic leadership.

However, on Wednesday, the National Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, told Journalists in Yola that the new state executive, under Chief Joel Madaki, was the authentic party.

NAN reports that the development has created two factions in Adamawa. (NAN)
