It’s not only Christians that are killed in North – Sultan
Against the background of insurgency in the North which has seen many Christians killed, the Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad III, has emphasised that it is not only Christians that are targets of attacks as Muslims are also subject to such attacks. The Sultan pointed to a number of incidents in various states in the North were Muslims leaders and top northern politicians have also been killed or attacked including the recent attack on the Emir of Kano Ado Bayero.
The Sultan who was speaking at the opening ceremony of a two-day meeting of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC), holding in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital, said northern leaders have repeatedly denounced the killings in the North by the Boko Haram sect.
He said the nation must join hands to fish out the criminals perpetrating the various acts of violence and bombings. The Sultan added that violence was not applicable to the North alone as there are cases of kidnapping and robbery in the southern states as well. In his speech, president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejofor expressed satisfaction that Muslim leaders were condemning the violence acts of the Boko Haram but urged them to step it up.
