FCTA hosts Super Eagles in grand style
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on Tuesday hosted the Super Eagles of Nigeria in what was described by Nigerians as the most thunderous celebration ever in the history of the Country as activities were paralysed at FCDA and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja to cheer them up. FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed who earlier led the staff of FCDA and other football fans in their hundreds to the Airport to welcome the Champions of Africa who touched down at the Airport at about 3:15 pm Nigeria time expressed joy to have been part of the history making Eagles.
Bala who received the Eagles at the Airport on behalf of President Goodluck Jonathan and organised a mini reception at the National Stadium in their honour, thanked the team for a job well done especially for promoting the good image of Nigeria before the international community. Area Councils were not left out of the celebration as some of the chairmen were sighted together with their Counselors, school pupils, men, women both old and young in their thousands in streets lineup singing, dancing and waving Nigerian National flag to the captivation of the Eagles.
Streets lineup by fans continued from the Airport with some of them running and blocking the road just to have a glimpse of some of the players especially Mikel Obi through the window of the coaster bus down to the National Stadium where they were hosted by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
No thanks to the security arrangement at the Airport at the early hour of the day as fans broke the front glass door to force their way into the Airport in anticipation to see the Eagles touched down at the tarmac of the Nnamdi Azikiwe international Airport.
Even with the presence of the security personnel and the dogs used by Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to scare the desperate fans away from entering the Airport, less attention was given to them as they were jubilating beyond taking notice of such distractions.
