Tukur PDPThe National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has declared that the action of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to reinstate the Kugama-led exco loyal to Governor Nyako was illegal and cannot stand.

Tukur also declared Joel Madaki as the legitimate Chairman of the party in the state, adding that the members of the NWC who took the illegal decision have already tendered their apology to the national headquarters of the party.

The national chairman made the remarks in an interview with newsmen at his Dougirei residence in Yola, Adamawa State.

Bamanga also eulogized the people of the State for their insistence in ensuring that the caretaker committee appointed by the NWC to conduct the party congresses succeeded in its assignment from the ward level up to the state an exercise that produced Joel Madaki as the legitimate Chairman of the party in the state.

“I must congratulate the people of the state who conducted themselves peacefully during the conduct of the Congresses which turned out legitimate leadership in the state” he said.

The National Chairman also said that the appointment of the Sule Lamido reconciliation committee to reconcile aggrieved parties was a welcome idea as his leadership is poised to promote peaceful resolution of impasse.

“When I came on board as the National Chairman of the party, I said let us embrace reconciliation. I said we should embark on all necessary reformations needed in the party without confrontation and to conduct our affairs based on the philosophy of equity and fairness”.

A tumultuous crowd had welcomed the national chairman at the Yola international airport a few minutes after the governor alongside Kugama left the state for Abuja, leading to suggestions that that the rift between the two factions in the state was not yet over.

Immediately after he was received by Joel Madaki, the state chairman recognized by him, Bamanga Tukur proceeded to his house where he declared Joel Madaki as the state party chairman.

But in a swift reaction, the Secretary of the Kugama led faction, Elisha, declared that the action of the national Chairman was unfortunate as there were no more factions in the Adamawa PDP because the NWC which dissolved the Kugama- led faction was the same body which reinstated it. He said by virtue of the constitution of the party, the Kugama exco is the only legitimate exco in the state.
